Fulfilling The Promise pg 120-162

There are a lot of additional resources in this book. I liked the graphic organizers they had. They are helpful for me as a teacher in planning instruction and are useful for students while they are reading, studying and taking notes. I liked the illustration of the know understand do format. You have the "know" which leads to the "understand" which then leads to the "do". It helps clarify what it is that you want the students to get out of the lesson. There are also a lot of fun activity ideas, like the science menus, think-tac-toe and RAFT activities. They are all really cool activities I am excited to use. I love that it talks more about tiering and it has examples. I loved seeing the example you used in class because I understood the concept a lot better afterwards. It is nice to see more examples as well.

Fullfilling the Promise chapter 7

I really liked all the traits of an effective teacher in chapter 7. Students really do want teachers who listen to them, show empathy toward them and who share parts of their own lives with them. When we learn about others, we have more empathy and respect toward them. They become human to us. Just like we have been doing in class with the sharing. I love learning about my classmates. I learn a lot of things I never knew, and that person becomes a person who i may have similarities with or connections to and that unites the students together. So when students learn about their teacher, their teacher becomes a human being who enjoys movies or shopping or who likes sports or collects rocks. It is so awesome to learn about other people, and when we do, a relationship can be formed. So if we share things about our own lives, our students will be able to connect with us in different ways. It is like you were telling the sharers in class last time, to share that they really like boots or they like to shop or any other hobbies. the students will love to know that.

I also liked how it says that a teachers' enthusiasm for learning and for a particular subject is important when teaching. Students want to know why you are so excited and they become excited and want to learn. Their motivation is so much higher than if the teacher acts like they don't want to be teaching what they are teaching. The students are going to mimic your emotions so you need to be enthused about learning.

Wow, teaching really is a hard thing to do. There are so many things that go along with it. I know it is probably the hardest profession I could have chosen, with so many obstacles. But, I know that I will try my hardest to make sure that the children feel like they are important, and if I can better the life of a child, I know it will be so worth it. Teachers do not get enough credit for what they do. They do amazing things, constantly juggling every subject, individual needs, social interactions and more. Teachers also get the most wonderful reward. I still remember teachers that I had in all my years of school. I remember great things they did, or how they changed my life, and it is so cool to think I can be that for a child as well.

I really enjoyed this book. college reading can get a little overwhelming but this book was refreshing. So many good things in here.
